As Japan celebrated it’s annual ‘Coming of Age Day’ last Monday, we figured it would be worth spending the long weekend in Taiwan. A 3hr flight away from Tokyo, the island is a very popular holiday destinations for the Japanese; and with current temperatures around 20-25°C why not escape the winter cold for a bit?
Dirtier, more chaotic than Tokyo, but all the more lively and welcoming are attributes that come to mind. Definitely reminds me of China or Hong Kong and I say that in a good way.
We particularly enjoyed the city’s diverse architecture, the different creative spots -such as Songshan Cultural Park, featuring an old tobacco factory turned into museums and galleries-, and last but not least the amazing food on Taipei’s famous night markets.
Of course, a trip to Taiwan’s capital is not complete without visiting Taipei 101. Due to sub-par weather conditions on the second and third day, we skipped the observation deck, but were able to get a pretty decent view at night from elephant hill.
